Night At Amasra

On our way to Amasra for an autumn trip, we stopped from Bakacak Hill to take a nighttime photo of Amasra. As with all our nighttime shots, we took this shot during what we call BLUE DARKNESS. This period, when we can still see everything but also capture the color effects of artificial light sources, is the most suitable time for nighttime photography.

As with all nighttime shots, I used an aperture of 8. I measured the overall light intensity using the shutter speed, and then recorded different exposure values using BRACKETTING / BANDING / SCAN in the + and – directions. This photo is taken with an exposure of -1.0.

For my JPEG files, I also took different shots using DAYLIGHT / TUNGSTEN and FLUORESCENT White Balance. This photo was taken using FLUORESCENT White Balance.

Since our location was quite far from the main view, I activated the Digital Teleconverter to take the shot. This allowed me to shoot at 300mm with a 2x optical multiplier using my 150mm lens, and at 600mm with a 2x Digital Telephoto.

Because the exposure time was long, I used a tripod. I prefer the Manfrotto BeFreeOne for tripods.

Due to the long exposure, I also activated the camera’s built-in NOISE REDUCTION feature. This prevented any noise from being created by the exposure.
